Hebei, China’s largest steel-producing province, produced 98.9 million tonnes of Crude Steel over January-June, up 0.5% from the previous year, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on July 23.The crude steel output in June amounted to 15.62 million tonnes, up 1% on year but dipping 3% on month.The steel products output from Hebei rose 4.8% on year to 124.61 million tonnes in the first half of the year, with June output at 21.76 million tonnes, rising 6.1% on year and up 1% on month.In addition, a total of 92.44 million tonnes of pig iron was produced in Hebei over January-June, a rise of 1.4% year on year, with June output at 14.25 million tonnes, up 2% on year but down 4.6% on month.Over January-May, Hebei’s steel industry saw its core business income grow 8.6% on year to 415.1 billion yuan ($67.83 billion), with profit totaling 4.28 billion yuan, up 8.3% on year, the official data showed.In 2014, the province phased out 15 million tonnes of crude steel production capacity and it will cut another 5 million tonnes of steel capacity in 2015, the provincial government announced in January.
